Selfie Coffee @ Bandar Sunway

Okay okay, we get it. Enough of cafes from Sunway. We're getting tired of it too. But, since this cafe has the word selfie in it, the Hungry Squad thought it might be worth a go.

What immediately came to us when we entered this cafe was how quiet it was. There were only a handful of customers as we entered the premise, despite the place looking clean, decent, and somewhat charming, whatever the reason, this cafe is just quiet. That being said, the interior of this cafe is actually pretty decent. Light bulbs hanging from above illuminating the interior of the cafe, artificial hedging around the walls, this cafe would be a great spot for socialising, its quietness being another factor.

So, what is special about the cafe? While they do offer a few types of cakes and pastries, what truly lies in this cafe is their coffee, with a twist. After ordering your cup of coffee, you may opt to...well, take a selfie of course. For those of you who do not know what a selfie is, it is the act of one taking a picture of oneself. While the act has a slight hint of vanity to it, the coffee offered here will probably make the customers a little more narcissistic than usual. So, after taking your selfie, they will take the selfie you took, and print it on your coffee. Sounds bizarre? We were surprised too. The end result is a picture of yourself on the coffee foam. Do not be alarmed however, the cafe has assured all their customers that their products are 100% safe to consume. We were too shy on that day to take a selfie, however an example can be seen below.

The Hungry Squad's final verdict on this cafe: While their coffee offered are interesting, the lack of food items might be the cause for their solitude. As students around this area are looking for a good meal apart from just coffee. So, for people looking forward to "drinking themselves", then this cafe will live up to your expectation. Other than that, don't get your hopes up on this cafe.

WichDay @ Taman Connaught

The cafe that I am going to introduce today may not be very familiar to most people especially those who live nowhere near Cheras area but it is a very cute and worth trying cafe located at Taman Connaught, Cheras. The name of the cafe is called WichDay.

First of all, one of the things that I really like about this cafe is the decorations which are very dreamy and fairy tale concept. As you can see from the picture, the entrance is very simple but the wooden horse made everything so cheerful and lively, kids will definitely love it!

Walking into the shop, the interior design is also very simple but the overall place looks very bright, clean and spacious. Nothing too fancy or clutter, sometimes keeping things simple is the best.

So, during my first visit to WichDay with my friends, we ordered their famous one of a kind Pandora Box and a Strawberry Chocolate Toast Box to try. They are the first cafe in Malaysia that has ever came up with the idea of Pandora Box and only serving it within a limited time daily which is from 3pm to 5pm.

Pandora Box

The Pandora Box is given the name because it is a box that is full of surprises. There are a lot of different ingredients very generously being stuffed inside this huge delicious butter toast box, served with whipped cream, strawberry chocolate ice cream, marshmallows and fruits. Once you cut into it, you can find these mini toast cubes coated with a light layer of plum jam which gives a little bit of tartness that helps to balance out the sweetness in a whole. Beyond words!

Strawberry Chocolate Toast Box

After digging into the super yummy Pandora Box, we then moved on to our Strawberry Chocolate Toast Box which also looks magnificent and the presentation was so beautiful to cut into it. The peanuts definitely is a plus point where they provide such crunchiness that just brought it to a whole new level.

Overall, I think the price of the food in WichDay is very reasonable too. So, what are you still waiting for? Come by and try it by yourself! Bring your friends too because sharing is caring

Miss Coffee & Toast @ Bandar Puteri

Puchong is a state that crowd with cars.  But do not worry, Puchong is one place full of restaurant and cafes.  When the timing is jam, stop at one of Puchong Cafe and enjoy a cup of coffee before continue your journey.
And now, I would like to introduce a newly check-ins place which located at Puchong Financial Corporate Centre(PFCC).  There are two individual cafes available in this building which are Walnut Cafe and Miss Coffee & Toast.  However, let's check out Miss coffee & Toast which i had visited last week with a gang of friends. If you stay at Puchong area, you would know this place well and super easy to find.

First of all, when you pass by this PFCC building, you does not realize there a cafe shop that can decorate well and having a comfy environment.  The high ceiling, furnish and decoration make the shop look bright with natural lighting.  It's suitable for youngster to take a selfie.  Additionally, I found something interesting is that each table where putting a glasses bottle with quote "enjoy a little thing" .

Is it necessary a cafe shop must have a nice design menu or something interesting? No.  Not necessary.  Miss Coffee & Toast is one of the example that showing their menu in a simple but nice and clear understanding to choose from.  An the top of the menu, they are showing the best seller - honey toast & waffle.  By the way, My friends and i decided to order a Strawberry Chocolate Toast and one Classic Waffle.  We did not order any drink because they had provided plain water for their customers.

Strawberry Chocolate Toast which cost RM18.  This toast unlike chocolate strawberry cake, the toast was neither in chocolate nor strawberry flavour.  Actually,   the toast is covered with rich melted chocolate and infuse together in the toast.  It also served with 2 scoop of vanilla ice-cream, whipped cream and cube-cut strawberry.  The taste is pretty awesome and lovely although it had high calories.  However, I do prefer to finish it before the toast getting cooler.  It was really mouth-watering and flavourful compared to others.

Is turn to share another dessert-classic waffle which cost RM16.   My friend told me that we need try their classic waffle which look and taste nice.  The waffle served with vanilla ice-cream and whipped cream.  Some more there were accompanies  with two fresh strawberries, butter and maple syrup on the waffle.   However, I does not really like their waffle although its' appearance look good and tasty.  It is because the waffle not enough fluffy and crispy.  For waffle fans, i will recommend you to Owls Cafe(Bukit Jalil) where their waffle will taste better than here.  Nevertheless, different people have different opinion on it.  As we heard before, people will said " no pain no gain", but for me, "no try won't know".  Thus, you can have a try on it.

Overall for this restaurant, its' relaxing atmosphere is preferable for those people who looking a nice place to hang out at.

La Cafe Memoire makes fresh Fettuccine daily and it was handmade.  It mixed up with the pork bacon, garlic and mushroom bits and also the coriander make the fettuccine taste better.  The bacon with mushroom fettuccine cost RM14.  From the picture, although seem like small portion yet the rich and creamy carborana pasta will fill you up.   As I'm one of the fans of cream paste, I like the creamy sauces with the coriander it put. Yummy!!!

Can you imagine how aromatic bacon can mixed up with a sweetness ice-cream and others nuts?  Yes.  Here you are- Nutty Bacon Sundae which cost RM11.  It seriously impressed me.  From top to bottom, the savoury bacon, calamansi sorbet, sweetness vanilla ice-cream and crunch of the caramelised mixed nuts was perfectly match.  Is a must try when you visit this cafe shop.  Even though is just a small cup of dessert, but i think it was value.  You may return to this cafe because of this dessert.

Lastly, Lime & Sour Plum Mojito will be another recommendation beverage for you.  The cost of this beverage is RM14.  It taste similar as "kat zhai shuen mui", a common drink that order at coffee shop in Malaysia but add up with a little alcoholic.  It could quench thirst and also provide refreshing.  Not necessary having Mojito at night, afternoon also can enjoy a cup of alcohol drink.

In the nutshell, I had enjoy the food that I ordered especially the dessert that I mention above.  A well as the environment,  you can spend your hours here and chatting with your friends.

Softsrve @ Damansara Uptown

Feeling stressed from works and studies? Let's go for some awesome desserts! Introduce to you the best ever soft serve ice cream in town - Softsrve
Just thinking of the creaminess of their ice cream, oh I can have them everyday!

Located at Damansara Uptown, this small little hidden germ has really been a hit lately. Not only the soft-serve ice cream that they are selling is delicious, but look at their simple and yet elegant homey feeling design. It just makes you feel so happy and relax to just stay inside there and chill.

Softsrve being an artisan ice cream parlor that specialize on creating unusual soft-serve ice cream flavours and experience. They have a variety choices of interesting flavours and toppings for you to choose. They offer unique flavours such as Cereal Milk, Deep Chocolate and sometimes they will have Oolong Tea or Teh Tarik. I think they are coming up with something more exciting where they collaborate with Chatime to soft launch a new flavour - Thai Boba! Just how fantastic is the idea! Definitely will be trying it out soon!

Not to forget to mention those rarely seen toppings that they serve as well. For example, how often do you see Churros selling in Malaysia? I bet most of us have not even heard of this food before. Well, if you have not tried it, you must come to Softsrve!

During the first time we went to Softsrve, we ordered two different flavours to try - Oolong tea which was only available within a limited time and Deep chocolate with nuts topping.

The ice-creams were being served on top of a cup filled with dry ice which can help the ice-cream from melting too soon and the some smokey effect coming out from the cups were so fascinating as if we were having dessert in heaven and everything just seemed so dreamy at that moment.

Had our first taste on them and finally the moment of truth! The soft-serve ice cream was so creamy and strong in flavour but good thing was they are not too sweet. Especially love the Oolong tea flavour for its special scent and refreshing taste.

Alexis @ The Gardens Mall

Alexis is probably one of my most visited cafe among so many cafes in Klang Valley. The one I normally go to is the Gardens Mall branch. Their design is always simple, usually just grey in color. Very elegant and classy.

There are only two things that would be the reason why I love Alexis so much is their signature dessert: Pavlova and Tiramisu. I swear they have the best of this two in the entire Klang Valley!

Source: http://www.awhiffoflemongrass.com/?p=210
For anyone of you that do not know what is pavlova. Imagine it as a delicious piece of sweet, soft and fluffy cloud textured of meringues served with whipped cream and berries. Now you know what I mean 😏

Tell me where else can you can get a tiramisu that looks like this! The maltose or caramel crumbs on top is the bomb! Oh! The red colour sauce at the side is not chili sauce anyways, it's a slightly tangy strawberry jam. Did not know these two things are so matchy like match made in food heaven. You just have to try it to understand what I say!

Espression 8 @ Bandar Sunway

(Taken from: https://www.foodink.com.my/listing/espression8/)
Surprise surprise, another cafe at Sunway. This cafe is another new addition to the Sunway Area, recently opened around the first quarter of 2015, Espression8's name comes from the lot number, which is 8, and the word Espression came from the owner when he said he wanted to express his coffee
(Taken from: http://foreverinhunger.blogspot.my/2015/03/espression8-bandar-sunway.html)
through espresso for his new cafe.

Outside the cafe, I felt that the small sign they placed on the ground was attractive and rather cute, showing two Pokemons, namely Snorlax and Pikachu and how Pikachu dodged Snorlax's attack by drinking coffee.

The interior of Espression 8 is fairly well lit, offering students a good environment for studying should they choose to come here. Most of the furnitures are wood, given it a little rustic look, while light bulbs hang from water pipes above.

Their coffee selection might seem standard at first, offering the usual cappucinos, lattes and flat whites. However, they have a very interesting coffee which the Hungry Squad has not seen before.
(Taken from: http://www.instagram24.com/tag/smocha)
And just look at it. The S'mocha. Basically a Mocha, topped off with smores, brown sugar, and chocolate sauce at the top. The coffee strength does not overpower the chocolate taste, and the smores on top are sweet and chewy. This is one of the better improvisations of coffee we have seen so far in cafes around the area. If you do not like food in cafes, forget about it! This S'mocha right here will be enough to "sweeten" up your day, all at the price of only RM11.

As for their food, they serve a variety of brunch items such as pancakes to poached eggs, and also heartier meals such as pastas and chicken chop and most of them are reasonably priced.

The Hungry Squad's take on this cafe? Decent food combined with an interesting mix of beverages, served by friendly staff (though they might be a little short on manpower) in a comfortable environment makes this cafe a good spot for group studying or socialising or even for loners.
